Installation of a trial includes a step to accept our end user license agreement - EULA. A copy of which is available here. This topic addresses the most common concerns legal teams have, specifically topics related to being a Salesforce application rather than an on-premise or hosted solution.
Implications of being a native Salesforce application
The Distribution Engine is a plugin to the Salesforce platform. This significantly reduces the legal clauses required. Specifically:
- We do not have our own servers - the applications runs within the customer's own Salesforce org on servers owned and managed by Salesforce.
- We do not have access to your customer data, configuration data, intellectual property or other data – running as a native app within your own Salesforce org means we cannot access anything within your org unless you choose to grant access for support reasons (see support access).
- Our source code is not visible to the customer - our application is installed into the customer's Salesforce org by the customer's own system administrator. The source code of Distribution Engine is not visible to the customer.
- We do not require any NDAs - we cannot access customer data or intellectual property and customers cannot access our data / IP.
- We do not have any performance service level agreements - the application runs on the customer's Salesforce org, we are reliant on this infrastructure so we cannot enter into any agreements related to up-time or availability of these servers - these are all controlled by Salesforce.
- Support access - applications installed into Salesforce include the option for a customer's administrator to temporarily grant access to the vendor to help resolve technical issues, but this is entirely optional and time limited by the customer.
Risks around the Distribution Engine application
- Distribution Engine is a lead routing application, it assigns sales leads to users. Whatever happens within the application these leads remain with Salesforce.
- If the customer was to become dissatisfied or the application was not working as required it can be uninstalled without any loss of existing data.
- In the worst case customers could revert to manual assignment or the assignment tools available natively in Salesforce. In other words a failure of the Distribution Engine application would reduce efficiency & available functionality but not present a catastrophic threat to a customer's business.
