Object Settings

In order to have Distribution Engine automatically assign territories to your records, we need to tell the system which objects will use territories. To do this, we will select the objects and assign each at least one map that will be used to populate the Distribution Territories field.

From the Object Setting section of the Distribution Classifier tab, select to add an object, or click on the name of the object you'd like to update.

If you're adding a new object you'll be prompted to select the object and the default map.

Filter Maps

From the map filters tab, you'll be able to see and update the default map. In most cases a single map is sufficient but there are situations where businesses use different territory definitions for different departments. For example, enterprise sized leads might fall within different territories than other lead types. Here you can add filters to define which map to use when. Click Add Map Filter.

Next, select the map that will be used for records meeting the defined criteria. In this example we're assigning enterprise sized businesses territories based on a unique map.

Define which fields Distribution Engine should use when marking the Distribution Territory field from the Field Matches tab.  When evaluating a record Distribution Engine will try to make a match starting at the top of these lists and will work down the fields until it finds a match.  If the territory is at the country level the fields in the country list will be used to make a match, the same is true for the state and zip code levels.

Field Matches

By default Distribution Engine identifies a set of geographic identifying fields but those can be changed by clicking to add a field in the appropriate list (Country, State, or Zip) or clicking the red X on the right to remove a field. The field order can be changed by dragging the fields or hovering over the arrows to the left of the field names.

Delay Processing

Last, you can add a delay processing filter to delay the distribution classifier if you want to delay assigning the territory. For example, you may want to wait to assign a territory until your data enhancement and validation tools have been able to update the record. From the delay processing filter tab, you can click Edit to add a filter.

Next, add a filter row and add the appropriate filter. From here Distribution Engine will wait to evaluate the record and assign a territory until the filter criteria are met.

You'll need to configure these setting for each object that you'd like to use territories. You can navigate back to the Object Settings list of objects by clicking Back to Object Settings.
