Export & Import

The Export and Import feature allows Teams, Territory Maps and Tag Collections to be moved between instances of Distribution Engine running on separate Salesforce orgs.

To ensure compatibility, import will only accept exports from the current or previous major release of Distribution Engine.

Export/Import lists all exports or imports that have been created on the org, with the most recent at the top. Each row lists the date of the export/import, whether it contained a team, territory map or tag collections, the exact contents within, and the user who initiated the export/import. For successful exports, a download link for the file will also show.

If an export or import fails, clicking the error notification will allow you to view the details of the error and clear the export or import from the list. If an error continues to occur, please contact support.

Exporting

To create a new export, click the Start Export button on the Export tab. The Export config modal will be launched with the following fields:

  • Content Type: Whether this export contains a team, a territory map or up to ten tag collections.
  • Content: Select the team, map or tag collections to be exported. Use the quick filter to help you find them by name.
If you are selecting a team export, you can optionally select whether to include team members in the export (enabled by default). Disabling this feature will remove the requirement for all users in the export to be present on the import org.

Once you have selected what you want to export, the export will begin. This may take a couple of minutes, and Distribution Engine will email you a notification when it is completed. Alternatively, you can watch the Export list, which will automatically refresh when your export is completed.

To retrieve your export, click the download button and save the file.

Importing

To import a file onto your org, click Start Import on the Import tab. The Import config wizard will be launched:

  • Select the file you want to import. Only JSON files that have been exported from Distribution Engine are valid.
  • On selecting a valid file, you will see an overview of the file including:
    • The name of the file
    • The date and time it was exported
    • The contents of the file

Once you have confirmed the details, the import will begin. This may take a couple of minutes, and Distribution Engine will email you a notification when it is completed. Alternatively, you can watch the import list, which will automatically refresh when your import is completed.

If the team or tag collections being imported already exist in the org, the import will override any existing configuration and settings. Any Team members or Distributors that are present in the org, but not in the import package, will be deactivated (but not removed from the team) on import.

Teams will be imported in an inactive state. They will need to be activated to begin distribution.

When importing territory maps, they will always be imported as drafts into the import org. Importing a map where an existing active map already exists will create a draft for the existing map.

You may see a slight delay on opening any newly imported territories while the map data loads. Map data will not be available for any map with over 500 territories.
